Jammu and Kashmir is all set to host a major tourism event next month, as the Jammu and Kashmir Tourism Department will organize the Kashmir Travel Mart on April 14–15 at the Sher-i-Kashmir International Conference Centre (SKICC).
The information was shared by the Office of the Chief Minister through a tweet by Omar Abdullah, who said that the event will bring together around 250 stakeholders from more than 20 states across the country. The Travel Mart aims to showcase the immense tourism potential of Kashmir and strengthen its position as a leading travel destination.
According to officials, the two-day event will include a range of activities such as craft safaris, curated destination tours, and business-to-business (B2B) meetings. These activities are designed to give participants a deeper understanding of the region’s culture, heritage, and hospitality while also creating opportunities for collaboration within the tourism industry.
The timing of the event is considered significant, as weather conditions in Kashmir have recently improved. Fresh snowfall in the upper reaches has added to the scenic beauty of the region, making it more attractive for visitors. Snow-covered mountains, pleasant weather, and blooming landscapes are drawing a large number of tourists, leading to a noticeable increase in footfall across popular destinations.
Tourists visiting the Valley have expressed happiness at experiencing both snowfall and improving weather conditions, which together create a unique and memorable travel experience. This natural charm is expected to further enhance the appeal of the upcoming Travel Mart.
The rise in tourist arrivals is also bringing positive economic benefits to the region. The tourism sector plays a crucial role in the local economy, and increased footfall directly supports hotels, houseboats, transport services, restaurants, and local markets. Artisans and handicraft sellers are also seeing better business, as more visitors explore traditional Kashmiri products.
Officials believe that events like the Kashmir Travel Mart will help in boosting long-term tourism growth by attracting investors, travel companies, and tour operators from across the country. It is also expected to generate employment opportunities and encourage sustainable tourism practices.
Describing it as a significant initiative, the Chief Minister said the event will strengthen tourism linkages and further position Kashmir as a premier global travel destination. With natural beauty at its peak and tourism activities gaining momentum, Jammu and Kashmir is looking to make a strong impression on the national and international tourism map.
