The Northern Railway has reportedly approved the opening of a new railway section in the Jammu Division for handling goods traffic. According to an official source, the approved stretch includes Baramulla (BRML), Banihal (BAHL), Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra (SVDK), and Martyr Captain Tushar Mahajan (MCTM) stations.

“The competent authority has given approval for goods traffic on this route with immediate effect,” the official said, adding that actual operations are expected to begin soon after completion of necessary preparations.

The section has been cleared for a loading capacity of CC+8 plus 2 tonnes, which, the source said, would support efficient transportation of freight and strengthen regional logistics.

“All departments concerned have been instructed to follow standard operating and commercial procedures,” the official noted. “Strict adherence to safety and security guidelines—particularly those specific to the valley—has also been emphasized.”

The move is expected to boost goods movement and improve connectivity in Jammu and Kashmir, the official added.

As per the source, the approval has come from the Principal Chief Commercial Manager (PCCM) and the Principal Chief Operations Manager (PCOM) of Northern Railway.
