The Jammu and Kashmir Home Department has temporarily suspended mobile internet services in the Bhaderwah area of Doda district. The suspension affects 37 telecom towers and will remain in place until May 27, 2025.
This action follows a directive issued by the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Jammu Zone, and has been confirmed through Government Order No: Home-12(TSTS) of 2025, signed by Principal Secretary Chandraker Bharti. The suspension has been enforced under the Temporary Suspension of Telecommunication Service Rules, 2024, which allow authorities to act swiftly in situations involving national security or public order concerns.
The shutdown, which began at 8 PM on May 22, affects all mobile data services—2G, 3G, 4G, 5G—as well as public Wi-Fi. Authorities stated that this decision was taken to prevent possible misuse of the internet by anti-national elements and troublemakers during a sensitive time, which could disturb public peace in the area.
The order was supported by a communication from the Jammu Zone office, identifying a significant threat if mobile data remained available during this period. The Home Department emphasized that this move was necessary in the interest of national security and maintaining public order.
The recent suspension follows a series of raids carried out by the State Investigation Agency (SIA), Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), and other agencies across Jammu and Kashmir after the terror attack in Pahalgam on May 22, 2025.
Officials clarified that due to the urgent and critical nature of the situation, prior approval from higher authorities was not needed. The action is backed by the new Telecommunication Act, 2023, along with the 2024 suspension rules.
All telecom and internet service providers have been instructed to strictly follow the order. The administration has requested public cooperation during this temporary disruption, assuring that such measures are taken only in extraordinary circumstances where public safety is at risk.
