With the advancement of technology we have come up with alot of waste management systems and various methods of garbage disposal, we have traditional dustbins at our home, on the streets still its very common to see garbage heaps in open places, streets, plots in no use. Have you ever seen any abandoned vehicle becoming a garbage bin? We all are facing these kind of issues in our daily lives, who is responsible for this? To whom we can complaint? Who will aware people about these things? What our Municipal Corporation is doing? these are some basic questions which comes to our mind when we pass through them.
The abandoned van in Shastri Nagar area is filled with trash and hazardous waste. People often make these abandoned cars/trucks an illegal dumping, turning the area into a junkyard. Abandoned vehicles fall within larger sets of problem involving motor vehicle regulation, social disorder, abd the illegal disposal of bulky, hazardous waste. Abandoned vehicle are often unregistered and may have defaced identification numbers. Abandoned vehicles attract vandals, may be used for drug drops or prosecution, accumulation refuse, and may be used as shelters by the homeless.
We are heading towards making our Jammu City a smart city but where we are failing as a good citizen is when we don't value our society and our heritage. We have witnessed Smart city Planning and the development work is in progress. With the help of advancement in Science and Technology we have experienced tremendous attention to escalated research activities to deal with solid waste. But, we are still far away from achieving a consummate panacea from the menace of pollution due to the inefficient ways of waste disposal activities practiced by common people.
One knows how to keep themselves and their home clean but forget about the surrounding where they are dealing daily. We all are aware of the fact that waste poses a threat to public health and the environment if it is not stored, collected, and disposed of properly inspite of this we are not bothered by the heaps of garbage outside our home, work place, schools or institutes. This increase of solid, liquid and toxic-waste is due to increase in urbanization. waste bins location is also a major problem in our country as people throw garbage in dustbins as well as in the surrounding of that bin. We as an individual should realize our responsibility then only we together get rid of these problems.
In the absence of bins, residents dump the waste on roads, abandoned vehicles dogs and cattle squatter upon the waste and also consume it. It not only leads to environmental issues, but the width of the road that can be used gets reduced, says resident of Shastri Nagar. In an interaction with locals they told that garbage is removed by conservancy workers once in a week after it ger piled up on other parts of road but no one put hnds in this van. People from other streets also dump garbage in this van. Neither local corporator nor any JMC official noticed this. " Either bin should be placed or garbage should be cleared regularly "
Globally, millions of tons of municipal solid waste are generate everyday. the problem of waste is not limited to this area but it is going unchecked across Jammu & Kashmir. Government doing their best to keep our city clean by installing Municipal Dustbins, polythene control, swachh Jammu Abhiyan, Swachh Survekshan, Sanitation drives for Heritage places. Some old campaigns Plastic Lao Thaila Pao, Distribution of Dustbins by JMC to households for segregation of waste, many other awareness campaigns. It's time to show your contribution toward your society. Municiple Solid Waste systems have important economic, social and environment impacts for society
